Oatmeal Raisin Iced Cocoa Rum

Okay, here's another cool creation I've done using the Salvadorian cocoa

What I did was take a shot and a half silver rum (Castillo) and I took a few pieces of a big oatmeal raisin cookie. I let it sit in the rum for a couple of hours.

After I let it soak for a while, I muddled it up a bit and the shot and let it simmer. I began making fresh cocoa. I let it cool down for a while then poured it into the glass with ice and stirred it well. I splashed some fresh nutmeg on top and bam!

Recipe
1.5 oz of Infused Oatmeal Raisin Rum
1 cup of freshly made hot chocolate
Splash of Nutmeg

As you can see below, it came out beautifully.

Caliente Salvadorena Tropical Cocktail

This is a special drink that I came up with after a friend of mine decided to make me some Salvadorian hot chocolate. Kudos to u :). As you can see, it starts from freshly handmade cocoa balls (don't bother looking for this in the United States because it comes straight from El Salvador). However, if you got a connect (someone that got the beans), by all means cop it from 'em or let 'em make it for you :).

Anyway, let's go into the drink!

To make the cocoa, follow these instructions and ingredients:

Take a couple of balls of cocoa and put it in the pot. Pour in about 1 1/2 cups or so of water. Add 3 tablespoons of raw sugar.

Put the stove on high and let it melt and simmer for 15 mins.

Continue to stir to help the cocoa fully dissolve.

After that, you can pour some into a mug. Here's the recipe:

4 oz Hot Cocoa

1 oz of rum (I used Haitian Rum -- Barbancourt Rhum)

1/2 oz of 99 Bananas

1/4 oz of Brandy Extract

Cinnamon

Nutmeg

This is by far the perfect winter cocktail! You'll have extra on hand for a couple of friends so you can change the portions as needed. Very nice taste with a lot of richness and dynamics of a strong, fruit flavor (99 bananas) and a darker and stern flavor brought on by the rum. Enjoy!

If you thought this was great, you can check out the Rumchata and Fireball Shot (cinnamon toast crunch shooter) and of course, you can peep how to make your own Rumchata

The Classic Daiquiri (Common Man Cocktails)

This is definitely a solid recipe. Just like a margarita -- less is more. You don't need strawberry and all of these other ingredients to make a good daiquiri. I've never had a daiquiri with salt added to the mix, but I figure it's worth a try. Here's the recipe:

2 oz Light Rum
3/4 oz Simple Syrup
3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
Punch of Salt

I like how they go into a brief history of the cocktail. I actually read about the history in a small bartending book a few years. Pretty cool stuff. Enjoy!

UK Rumfest: A Chat with Shervene Shahbazkhani

This is a nice interview with a brand ambassador from Bacardi. I must say some of the flavors of Bacardi lately have been stellar. However, I'm still a fan of their Castillo brand because it takes a bit better for silver and spiced rum and typically half the price.

Malibu Red Sunrise

This was an NYE recipe I came up with right on the fly. I haven't drank Malibu Red in who knows how long so I just decided to create a cocktail right there. Seeing as Malibu Red is coconut rum and tequila infused together, I saw the orange juice and grenadine and said why not?

Recipe

1.5 oz of Malibu Red
Orange Juice
Top with a nice float of Grenadine

Depending on your taste, you can let it naturally sink or just use a spoon and stir. It turned out pretty good.
