6 ways to save money before you head to the bar or while you are at the bar

Sup, everyone? I know I normally post recipes and funny stuff, but this is a bit on the informative side, ya dig? All right, we all know how expensive it can get to really enjoy the bar and club scene ESPECIALLY when you are college kid. I'll break it down!

1.) Buy from the liquor store!!

Yes, yes. Yes! This is something I do on a regular..in fact, this is the last thing I bought - a 200 ML Coconut Ciroc Bottle + Pineapple Juice to make the Cocoloso!!! If you know your liquor measures, then you know that's enough for about 4 drinks. Or if you are really cheap..just get yourself a couple of minis and your own stash at home and mix it together! Pack yourself a nice bottle/container of your favorite mix and drink right before you head inside (watch out for cops). LOL.

2.) Pre-game at someone else's spot!

This is especially the case if you don't have to drive anywhere. Remember, people. Drinking and driving is A NO GO!!! At least pack it up to take it with you. This way you probably wont even have to spend money on liquor or very little.

3.) HAPPY HOUR!!

Now, happy hour for a lot of places is from for 4-7..or even 6-9 to places that stay up rather late. TAKE ADVANTAGE! A lot of the time, drinks are half off, there are special pitchers on beers, special drinks that really get you twisted for cheap, etc. Also, it gives you a chance to walk around different places because the bars usually have small spots you can go. That means your meal might be half off as well. Definitely take advantage of that...a couple of 4 dollar Long Island Ice Teas go a LONG WAY!!!

4.) Always go tap or rail (FUCK PREMIUM..if u don't got it..haha)

Pretty much all liquor tastes around the same when mixed. I have my favorite Vodka which is Ciroc. But I know it's a premium brand. Premium brand means a HUGE hole in your pocket. Fuck that. You know you can go to a liquor store and get 4 drinks worth of Ciroc for less than 15 bones. At an average bar or even club, Ciroc, Grey Goose, Belvedere *all the high end vodkas, scotchs, etc) is at least 10 bucks plus tip (20%). So you are basically paying the fee of a small bottle at your Liquor Store for ONE DRINK (that's POSSIBLY WATERED DOWN). NOT WORTH IT! Try to find the cheapest drink specials, rails or something that you know will taste good. That will definitely save you money inside.

5.) TIPS!!! BE FAIR BUT BEWARE!!

I ALWAYS TIP!!! If you can buy drinks at the bar, you can also tip! Point. Blank. Period. If you buy a drink for 5 bucks, tip 20%. That's a good tip. Anything, below that is ehh...not so much. Your bartender will be pissed, get antsy, and the rest of your night might not go as smooth. Don't overtip unless you know the bartender and have a good relationship. That's a quick way of going broke! The only time you should really overtip is if you have a relationship with the bar and the club. 9 times out of 10, you'll get some free drinks or some shots.

6.)Be careful using a card!

Make sure you are always aware of what's going on with your card if you decide to create a tab. You might end up with a crazy ass amount at the end of the night. Don't go buying shots for random people on your card because you might get too tipsy and not even remember that you did that. Also, make sure you know exactly what your card looks like...a name..a label..something to help your bartender recognize your card. It's important!

These are just a few tips to help you while you get a night in of drinking. Happy Tipsy!

Drink to your health - The Wine Health argument

This is a really good argument about the benefits and not so great things about wine. I honestly feel wine would be the least damaging to your system with all of the drinks. I love to drink, but I make sure I keep everything under moderation. In fact, the last time I seriously drank was a few weeks ago. Wine is something that has a lot of great properties as the root is made from fruits instead of just sugar and yeast like other alcohols. One thing to note is to keep it in moderation. Like everything, too much of something is bad. A glass a day for women and two glasses a day for men seems to be the most appropriate serving to keep your health in good standings. For me, it's an every once in a while thing. I'd rather stick to the fruit. Check out the infographic below!

Game Inspired Drinks from Retro Video Games

First of all, shoutout to Drunken Moogle to being one of the premier places of developing the video game drinks. As anyone knows, I'm a HUGE fan of video games (as I have a Playstation 3 Game Console blog site) and I do love building and posting up different cocktail recipes. Besides the ones I will post on here, I will definitely send you to some great videos of video game cocktail recipes. Peep below to see what Retro Video Games posted a while back. There are quite a bit of them! If you want to look at some cool gaming recipes, you can check out some of the ones I've posted on my gaming site.

Flicky with Chirp shots

Flicky
1/4 Blue Curacao
1/4 Bacardi Razz
2/4 Fanta Lemon
Mix the Blue Curacao and Bacardi Razz, shake with ice and pour into a glass. Top it off with the Fanta Lemon.
Chirp shot
2/3 Mango Liqueur
1/3 Pineapple drink mix (could also work with pineapple juice)
Mix the ingredients together and shake it with ice, then pour into a shot glass.

Jade (from Beyond Good & Evil)
1/4 Apple Sourz
1/4 Cointreau
2/4 Sprite
Mix Apple Sourz with the Cointreu, shake with ice. Pour into a tall glass and top it off with Sprite. (If the apple sour doesn’t add enough green to the drink then add some caramel color)

Chocobo (from Final Fantasy)
1/2 Rose’s Lime Juice Cordial
1/2 Pineapple Liqueur
Pour together, shake it and add a slice of lemon on top

Vampire’s Kiss (Castlevania)
1/2 Red Wine (or Port wine if you prefer it sweeter)
1/2 Passoa (Passion fruit liqueur)
Stir the ingredients together and pour into a small wine glass. I tied a black ribbon into a bow on the foot and attached a blood red flower on it to get that gothic romantic touch. If you fail to get the ribbon to stick to the top of the foot then it’s ok, it looks good when it’s at the bottom as well.

Mega shoutout Retro Video Games for these amazing looking cocktails!

Algonquin Cocktail - The Cocktail Spirit with Robert Hess

I really love these old fashioned cocktails that have a lot of history behind them especially the earlier cocktails from the 1900s and before then. Here's the history on this particular one taken from the YouTube page:

"This cocktail was named after the Algonquin Hotel, which opened its doors in 1902 in one of New York's most fashionable neighborhoods. The hotel gained its greatest fame a few years later as the home of the Algonquin Round Table, the repeating literary lunch in which Alexander Woollcott, Harpo Marx, Dorothy Parker, Robert Benchley, and their compatriots held sway on New York's cultural scene. There were in fact several drinks named after this historic venue, but this recipe is the one currently served by the hotel's bartenders."

Recipe:

1 1/2 oz rye whiskey
3/4 oz dry vermouth
3/4 oz pineapple juice (unsweetened)

4th of July Patriot Punch via TipsyBartender

First of all, doesn't this pic up top make you feel real patriotic? LOL. Second of all, you should see this cool punch. Peep it.

Now, this looks like a nice lil cool punch to make for today's festivities. I personally can careless for a hawaiian punch so i might substitute it for a cranberry or something, but this looks aesthetically pleasing. The great thing about this particular beverage is you make it as a mocktail or a cocktail. One thing to note is to put your alcohol in first then your mixers for better layering technique. Also, for the people that count their calories or don't wanna go overboard, the Gatorade is low calorie and the 7up is diet. You won't feel too bad having a couple of these.

Recipe:
Hawaiian Punch
Blue Low Calorie Gatorade
Diet 7up
Optional - Your favorite Rum, Vodka, Tequila to take it up another level

Also, if you are really into patriotic stuff, you should check out the Avengers shots particularly Captain America.
